A Good Vintage

Downtown shop Island Keepsakes specializes in Hawaiian gifts, such as locally produced salt, beauty products, handmade Christmas ornaments and gift baskets. But eagle-eyed shoppers will be smart to pounce on a new addition to the store: a case filled with vintage jewelry. Owner Rita Luke says she’s experimenting with the idea of carrying vintage items via a new vendor, and that the oldest piece on offer is a circa-1890s black choker, in perfect condition and $150. Other goodies include brooches, reverse-engraved glass from the 1960s, Pop Art-inspired chunky bracelets, and even 1980s neon-bright rings, with prices averaging $30 to $40.  Island Keepsakes, 1050 Nuuanu Ave., 550-0996.
