Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, seems angry.

Dramatic footage recently released by the USGS’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory shows fiery molten lava spewing from the Kīlauea Volcano lava tube into the sea at the Kamokuna ocean entry. The stream of lava, about 2 yards wide, triggered pulsating explosions with chunks of molten rock and debris flying high into the air.

It’s not the first time Pele put on a spectacular show. On New Year’s Eve 2016, a huge portion of the 26-acre lava delta formed by the lava flow collapsed into the sea, causing a temporary closure at the Kamokuna ocean entry. The Kīlauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983.

Watch this incredible video of the “firehose” lava spilling into sea. We’re sure you will lava it.

The Kīlauea Volcano recently produced about 1,700 to 5,700 metric tons of sulfur dioxide emission per day within the past week, even with that vog the Vog Measurement and Prediction Project rated the air quality in Honolulu as “good.”
