Mardi Gras is coming up this month on Feb. 24; look out for members of the Samba Axé (pronounced a-shay) dance troupe around town, bringing a Brazilian flair to the celebration in colorful, feathery costumes from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Samba Axé has been dancing in Honolulu since 1995, although the lineup has grown and morphed over the years to include more than 10 dancers. From left, Elsalina Sumida, Mazé Lima, Felicia Rishty, Cheryl Bartlett and Mami Goto. Visit our online events calendar.
