Dr. James Lucas and his friendly, dedicated staff work long hours to provide state-of-the-art cardiac care for Big Island residents.
Dr. Lucas has been providing services in critical care medicine, non-invasive cardiology and cardiac nuclear imaging since his arrival on the island more than 15 years ago.
This cardiologist brings diverse skills to Hawaii. He completed his cardiovascular medicine fellowship at Stanford University, and performed extensive research in cardiac nuclear medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Recently he was a visiting scholar at UCLA Medical Center, where he received advanced training in integrative cardiopulmonary stress testing.
“I take my time with my patients, get to know them, and I am always present while they are being tested,” he says. “Tests are important, but they are not perfect, and they should not supersede the old-fashioned patient-doctor interaction.
“Every night, I ask myself two questions: What did I do that I shouldn’t have done, and what didn’t I do that I should have done? I believe that answering these questions truthfully makes us better physicians.”
