His ophthalmological practice provides complete eye care, focusing on eyelid, tear duct, and orbital surgery. A pioneer of new surgical procedures, he has earned the trust of Hawaii doctors and patients. His humanitarian work has received numerous commendations.
Dr. Camara serves on the board of the Aloha Medical Mission and is its past president. He trained 26 international ophthalmology fellows through the University of Hawaii and the Consuelo Foundation. The former chair of ophthalmology at the St. Francis Medical Center continues to teach as clinical professor of the UH School of Medicine.
He has introduced live piano music into his operating room, studying the relaxing effect that pre-surgery performance has on patients. The resulting album, “Live from the Operating Room,” became the Hawaii Music Awards Classical Album of 2010. He is working on an opus entitled “Vital Signs.”
