Don't be fooled by Formaggio's seemingly quiet shopping-plaza location in Kailua; the ambiance and menu pack a punch. Sit in oversize leather chairs and smell the food cooking on the kiawe wood stove. Menu items include crab-crusted salmon ($25.99) and a grown-up version of mac and cheese ($21.99) that features lobster claws, bowtie pasta, lobster cream sauce and pancetta. The restaurant is also host to one of four Cruvinet wine preservation systems on the island, keeping wine fresh longer and allowing more expensive bottles to be opened for single glasses of wine. There are 125 wines on the menu, with 50 offered by the glass. Open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
