“The Party that Ended All Parties,” November 2010

In Afterthoughts, executive editor Kathryn Drury Wagner sheds new light on an unrestrained, widely discussed, Sept. 1948 Beaux Arts costume ball, sponsored by the Honolulu chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Great article, as an architect I have been fortunate to have attended some awesome parties. I was born in 1948 so it would not have been possible to attend [this one]. Architects seem to enjoy parties, possibly as a way to “get out of your head.”  We spend a lot of time thinking and working ideas into reality.  I wish I could have been to that party in Honolulu!

Does the original article exist digitally? I need more party planning ideas!

"What's New at the Zoo?" November 2010

Writer Matt Tuohy checked in with the officials who run the Honolulu Zoo.

Way to go Sid Quintal! We need more people like you in government. We have seen a great improvement at the Honolulu Zoo within the past five years!

“Training for Life,”  November 2010

Writer Peter Serafin reports the rising popularity of Crossfit, the intense conditioning program.

If you are in the area, you owe it to yourself to hit up Crossfit Oahu.  Courtney is awesome! I dropped in for a Workout of the Day and they treated me like family.

“Beyond Kalbi,”  November 2010

Dining Editor John Heckathorn explores O‘ahu’s Korean restaurants, including Ah Lang, ran by Won Lam, also known as the Angry Korean Lady.

I love Ah Lang! The food there is amazing!

Best of HONOLULU, March 2010

In this feature, our editors found the Ewa Pantry to be the Best Liquor Store You Haven't Been to Yet.

This is not your father’s liquor store; incredible selection, immaculate display of bottles from floor to ceiling and decent prices. Try it, you’ll be back.

In our November issue, Rae Huo should have been listed as the photographer of “Beyond Kalbi.”
