Drink up at these four Honolulu events: Cocktail-Toa, Grindhouse Throwdown and more
This week, you won't be thirsty. And not just because it's the week before Halloween. Check out these events:
- Cocktail-Toa: Take a time machine back to 1958, to Waikiki's Don the Beachcomber and experience swinging tiki culture through the drinks and music. (As if there were any other way!) Bartenders Kyle Reutner and "The Professah," a cocktail historian from Boston, recreate tiki cocktails, rescuing them from the realm of syrupy, fake-colored concoctions to fresh, fruity spiced drinks. Some of them: Wai Tai, with demerara rum and allspice, the Shrunken Skull (a blend of two rums, house made rose and hibiscus syrups and citrus), and the ever-popular original Zombie. Reutner will also debut Hawaii Bitters' own Mai Tai bitters. Music by Waitiki's Kahiki Serenaders.

- Try Lush Pops, cocktails on a stick, at the opening of Kakaako's latest warehouse-cum-food/artspace. Visit Lush Lab's space, shared with architecture group CoXist Studios, at the Grindhouse Throwdown event and sample Lush Pops in flavors of Lavender Lemondrops, Lilikoi Mint Mojitos and Li Hing Margaritas.

- The Wine Stop celebrates its ninth anniversary by setting up the outdoor grill and sampling over twenty wines. Stop by for a toast and get a head start on holiday wine shopping with a 15 percent discount off quantity buys.

- This Friday is Art after Dark, and since the closure of Downtown, Town no longer has the capacity to cater the monthly event. We'll miss its Art after Dark bites, but Indigo is stepping into this month's Freak Out! theme with some spooky dishes: Freaky Ghosts of Fowl (curried chicken), Wokked Witch Fingers (Chinese long beans with chili black bean sauce), Spicy Devil Cheeks (Szechwan peppercorn-braised pork cheeks). Honolulu Museum of Art members will feast on a Nobu Waikiki pupu station and Waikiki Parc wine bar.
