Where to Drink for Free in Honolulu

Summer is the perfect time to find a new favorite sparkling wine, bright and crisp and perfect for an Independence Day picnic, or to try a different kind of red in your sangria. Or maybe a sake-filled summer is more your speed. Here’s a list of upcoming wine and sake tastings—and they’re free. (We DO suggest buying a bottle or three when you find your new favorite bottle because there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to find them again.)

HASR

The Chinatown wine shop holds tastings every Tuesday and Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., while supplies last. Check the website for a calendar of tasting events.
Next up: HASR staff will pick a few of their favorite bottles and pour until there’s no more on Friday, June 13. Show up right at 5 p.m. and you’ll be sure to get more than a few good sips in.

The Wine Stop

The Wine Stop holds tastings every Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Check the website for a calendar of tasting events.
Next up: Take dad Saturday, June 14 to taste a few hand-selected, Father-approved bottles at The Wine Stop’s Father’s Day tasting.
On Saturday, June 21, The Wine Stop hosts a sampling of poke and poke-friendly wines. Because sometimes cool and raw trumps grilled and smoky. Wine Stop follows up its poke-fest with its Wines and Fireworks tasting—“sparkling wine for the sparklers, Syrah for the spice, Pinotage for the smoke and Zinfandel for the finish.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
