Two gifts to bring to a holiday party

Need a host(ess) gift for holiday parties? There are lots of prettily-packaged options at Big Island Candies' pop-up shop at Ala Moana, but the Hawaiian Red Chili toffee ($11.25)  stands out. Chocolate covered crunchy toffee is infused ever so slightly with red chili for an evanescent burn after the sweet.

At Shirokiya's Meika Plaza, delight your host with Petit Custa (8 for $4), little pancake-batter bears (only a bit bigger than Teddy Grahams) filled with custard or fillings like guava, strawberry and chocolate. Ridiculously cute, delightfully tasty.
