Happy birthday to the King of Pop.

Michael Jackson would have turned 56 this weekend. In honor of his birthday, we dug up this 17-year-old bootleg footage of Jackson in concert at Aloha Stadium. Jackson performed two sold-out shows there, on Jan. 3 and 4, 1997. It was his first U.S. performance since 1989, but not his first show in Hawaii. That was in 1980, when he performed at the Blaisdell arena with the Jackson 5.

In the first of this six-part YouTube video, you can see Jackson’s dramatic arrival onstage at Aloha Stadium in what looks like the nose cone of a spacecraft.

Jackson was born Aug. 29, 1958, and died June 25, 2009.
