Usherettes - Some of the Waikiki usherettes line up on the stairway from the ladies’ lounge around 1936. Their uniform of white slacks, white blouse, red waist and shoulder sash, red feather lei and ever-present flashlight continued in use (minus the shoulder sash) into the 1970s. Their training included memorizing the alphabet backwards in order to seat patrons easily and holding multiple sets  of tickets between their fingers.
