A Downtown Interlude

If you and your sweetie are busy downtown professionals, an easy—and free—afternoon date is hidden in the First Hawaiian Center at 999 Bishop Street. The Contemporary Museum has a secluded satellite gallery that’s accessible by walking into the main lobby area of FHC and heading up the stairs. Currently on display: “Anxiety’s Edge” by artists such as Kara Walker and Gregory Crewdson, and “In Memoriam: Maqbool Fida Husain” with Hindu subject and European style paintings. Afterwards, take a quick ride on the FHC elevators. It’s the tallest building in the state, and the glass elevators give a panoramic view of Honolulu Harbor.

Meat-Up

For a casual pau hana date in Waikiki, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, in the Royal Hawaiian Center, offers its daily bar promotion Cocktails on Kalakaua.
