9th Avenue Rock House

You won’t hear any whiny Celine Dion songs at 9th Avenue Rock House. The karaoke bar stays true to its name: It’s all about the rock. “We’ve got everything from Elvis and the Beatles to Buddy Holly, all the way up to [the band] 3 Doors Down,” says owner Terrence Kamisato, adding that his sound system is better than most. “It sounds more like a live performance than at other karaoke bars with too much echo, or when a voice gets buried.”

So what’s up with the 125-gallon fish tank in the corner? It’s one of the only remnants of the bar’s former fish-themed life as Pub Kagami.

3435 Waialae Ave., 738-5524.
