Nine Pearl Harbor survivors visited ‘Iolani School on Dec. 9 to talk story with students. The survivors joined students outside the 100th battalion building to plant a puakenikeni tree to recognize and honor World War II veterans.
The USS Oklahoma ceremony commemorated the devastating loss of the Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor. The battleship took three torpedo hits almost immediately after the first bombs fell, leaving 429 men either dead or missing.
World War II veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service and 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion were honored at an event on Dec. 5 commemorating the Pearl Harbor attacks.
