I completed the Pediatric Dental Residency program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and have had the privilege of assisting children, adolescents and young adults with maintaining good oral hygiene for more than 37 years. Along with my twin daughters, Dr. Renee Uchida and Dr. Cherie Uchida, who are also pediatric dentists, I devote every day to doing what is best for each patient’s oral healthcare through the adolescent years.
Throughout my years of practice, I have found that a fun offi ce environment allows patients to comfortably learn about the benefi ts of proper oral hygiene and a healthy smile. As a child, I recall not looking forward to visiting the dentist, and this is the case with most children today.
That is why our practice makes an effort to make the
dental experience more enjoyable, providing an animated, child-friendly environment and focusing on understanding the point of view of each patient.
Educating the patient is only part of our service as
pediatric dentists. Educating a patient’s parents or
guardians is also important, as they, too, play a vital
role in developing and maintaining an oral healthcare
regimen at home for their children. When working with the patient’s parents or guardians, I approach things from their point of view, proactively addressing the many concerns and questions that I also would have as a parent.
