The Friends of Hawai‘i State Art Museum (FHiSAM) continues its Hawai‘i Artists’ 2018 Portfolio Project with the official opening of the Portfolio 2018 Exhibit, featuring new works by six globally acclaimed Hawai‘i artists on Friday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Fewer than 25 of 50 valuable signed and numbered portfolios are available as a gift to Friends at the Benefactor membership level.

The portfolio and show are curated by Michael Rooks, curator of modern and contemporary art at the High Museum in Atlanta. Prior to joining the High Museum, Rooks held curatorial positions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Contemporary Museum Honolulu, and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. As curator at The Contemporary Museum Honolulu, Rooks curated more than 15 exhibitions including projects by Michael Lin, Paul Morrison and Yoshitomo Nara, introducing audiences in Hawai‘i to a new generation of international contemporary art.

Local artists Ashley Bickerton, Kaili Chun, Yvonne Cheng, Paul Pfeiffer, Garnett Puett and Lawrence Seward have donated works for the portfolio. New works by Cheng, Chun, Seward, Bickerton and Pfeiffer will be on view, with some for sale.
