Grab your sneakers and get physical! It’s time for Loko Ea Fishpond’s third annual event on Sunday, March 22. Run or walk the 8 kilometer and 15 kilometer races and join the leisurely one mile Fun Walk—there’s an event for the whole ʻohana!
The 8 kilometer and 15 kilometer are a road and trail course that will feature scenic beach views. Both routes race past the iconic Anahulu (Rainbow) Bridge, Aliʻi Beach Park, Kaiaka Bay Park, Pohaku Lana‘i giant stone mushroom (also referred to as the ancient site for the balancing rocks), to the historic Haleʻiwa Elementary School (1871) and their own Hale Wa‘a (canoe hale), and the private grounds of Puaʻena Point where the historic WW2 Airstrip still remains. Participants in the 8 kilometer and 15 kilometer routes will receive a bib number with a timing chip and a beautiful finishers medal when they complete the race. Prizes for first, second and third places will be given out to five age categories for each chip-timed race.
Proceeds will benefit Mālama Loko Ea Foundation’s restoration efforts and educational programs at Loko Ea fishpond. (Mālama Loko Ea Foundation is Haleiwa’s own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.)
