Date/Time

Mar 8, 2019 to May 5, 2019
11:00 AM until 06:00 PM

Description

Honolulu Biennial 2019 features 47 artists and artist collectives from Hawaiʻi and the countries and continents linked by the Pacific.

During the two-month run of Hawai’i’s largest contemporary art festival, there will also be over 90 free public programs at the Hub of HB19 as well as at over 10 exhibitions sites.

The Honolulu Biennial 2019 title is drawn from the poem Manifesto by participating Kānaka Maoli artist Imaikalani Kalahele:

The source
of
my origins
lie beneath my feet,
the breath
in my chest
originated
in Pō
the destiny
of my race
is
plunged into
my gut
and
infesting
my veins

with a new nationalism,
old spiritualism,
and a need
to make wrong
right
now.

— Imaikalani Kalahele, “Manifesto” from Kalahele
