A Slow Awakening is a beach cleanup and dance installation held at Waimānalo Bay Beach Park with the local dance collective The Spinning Goats.
The event will include a potluck, movement workshops, and a performance meditation on making the beach plastic free.
Dancers and art makers include Sami L.A. Akuna, Sequoia Carr-Brown, Jhalak Kara Miller, Mareva Minerbi, and SheenRu Yong with guest artists Larry Asakawa and Anne Selby.
The event is part two of a three-part durational dance installation and movement research project raising ecological awareness taking place in Hawai‘i and Seoul, Korea. The Spinning Goats have been invited by South Korean Artist and Producer Moonea Choi to bring A Slow Awakening internationally to Seoul in July 2019 for the third dance installation to be created at the Seoul International Dance Festival in Tank in Seoul, Korea.
