2016 Top Doctor: Gregory K. Yim, M.D.
A local boy with world renowned experience and reach in pediatrics and pediatric neurology, Dr. Greg Yim has been putting on his scrubs daily to care for his patients for more than 20 years at Kapi‘olani Medical Center. After his shift there, he then heads to Windward Pediatrics, a mainstay of the Windward Community, founded by his father, Dr. Henry Yim, the first pediatrician in Kāne‘ohe. Deeply rooted in local family care, Dr. Yim’s pediatric care for keiki and their families draws patients from all over O‘ahu. Experienced support by his longtime incredible staff is an important part of his continued success.
In the afternoon at Kapi‘olani Medical Center, he focuses on his passion—caring for children with neurologic disorders, including brain disorders, cerebral palsy, muscular disorders, developmental delays, learning difficulties, autistic spectrums, epilepsy, headaches and concussions. A new 24-hour ambulatory EEG service through InSight Imaging provides his patients with leading-edge technology. His experience in children’s health has garnered him leadership roles at Kapi‘olani Medical Center, the Variety School, Punahou School and Maui Grown Therapies for cutting edge severe epilepsy treatment using medicinal cannabis.
The Punahou graduate attended Ivy League Dartmouth College and earned his medical doctorate at Philadelphia’s Jefferson Medical College. After pediatric training at Kapi‘olani Medical Center, he attained his pediatric neurology fellowship at Columbia University Neurological Institute. Invited to serve on the Neurology National Board of Examiners, he has worked for 10 years to determine the standard of care guidelines in pediatric neurology. Sought after by Mainland medical institutions, he chose instead to come home to bring the most current treatments in pediatrics and child neurology to Hawai‘i.
“I care for every child no matter how weak or frail, like my own.”
